Collective self-consumption

AUC Giordano Bruno, Grugliasco

At Viale Giordano Bruno 3, 5 and 7, Sail Group completed a condominium energy-efficiency project centred on a 46 kWp photovoltaic system and collective self-consumption groups for the three building addresses.

The project model

A collective self-consumption group allows at least two users in the same building or condominium to produce, share and consume energy generated by a common photovoltaic installation. The model combines direct self-consumption with the virtual sharing of renewable electricity among participating users.

Benefits for participating users

  • Lower grid consumption: electricity used directly from the photovoltaic system is not purchased from the grid.
  • Shared-energy value: eligible collective self-consumption can access the mechanisms managed by the Italian Energy Services Operator (GSE).
  • Surplus valorisation: energy not used on site can be fed into the grid and managed through the available market or dedicated-withdrawal arrangements.
  • Environmental performance: local solar production reduces reliance on fossil-based electricity and supports building decarbonisation.

An investment in the building

The intervention links a common technical asset with a cooperative energy model. It can reduce operating costs, increase the building’s energy autonomy and create a clearer path for residents to participate in the energy transition.
